Davis Residence

Davis Residence

Sprout Studio LLC was hired as the Landscape Architect for this private residential project located in the Buckhorn Ranch community in Crested Butte, CO. Key considerations for this project are framing views, minimizing impact on the existing landscape, integrating the built landscape into the native landscape and working with the natural grade of the site. The plant palette of native wildflowers complemented by ornamental grasses and native flowering shrubs was developed to meet the client’s desire for abundant color and texture while native spruce and aspen are placed to frame key views and screen undesirable views. Boulder retaining walls to be constructed of stone salvaged from the site during excavation will create grade transitions and provide pockets for planting so that the walls will blend into the native landscape. Patios are located to take advantage of sun exposure and views while providing protection from winds. Stone steps and flagstone paving along the entry path will complement the boulder retaining walls and the stone veneer on the foundation of the home to create an integrated design that connects the home to the landscape. As of October 2012, this project was still under construction. Client: Davis Family, Sunlit Architecture Location: Crested Butte,...

Broadway Reconstruction

Margaret Loperfido (while employed at Belt Collins) was the project manager and senior design for the urban design and landscape architecture portion of this major roadway corridor reconstruction project in Boulder, Colorado. This roadway infrastruction improvement project impacted about 3 miles of roadway including upgrades to several public and private utilites, a new concrete roadway and replacement of a drainage/ditch structure in addition to the urban design and landscape improvements. Coordination, collaboration and flexibility were required by all design team members. The urban design and landscape improvements included; improved transit stop amenities, sidewalk replacement and upgrades, new landscaping and urban tree preservation measures, historic preservation and incorporation of public art. The urban design improvements were emphasized in high pedestrian use areas and at transit stops throughout the corridor. Sensitivity to historic resources, existing mature trees and adjacent private properties were key elements for the success of this project. Broadway in Motion was the themed public art that was developed as part of the project by the landscape architecture and urban design team. The history of transportation along the Broadway Corridor was the underlying theme from which grew stories of Boulder’s beginnings through modern day tales of the corridors’ people, patterns and modes of transportation. Boulder’s Transportation Department emphasizes ‘functional art’ as and important piece to their projects. The canvasses for Broadway in Motion were the transit shelters and the concrete paving. Antique Row

Margaret Loperfido (while employed at Belt Collins) was the project manager and senior design for the urban design and landscape architecture portion of this roadway reconstruction project. S. Broadway has been known as a high-speed retail strip. This project is a piece of the effort to transform this unfriendly roadway to an attractive retail and mixed-use corridor that provides safe, comfortable and attractive facilities for pedestrians, bikes and transit users while maintaining efficient vehicular access. Barberry Circle Residence

Barberry Circle Residence

This home improvement and curb appeal project included creating an outdoor room and entry patio that expanded the living space of this residence by about 300 sf. Large boulders were used to define the outdoor room, provide informal seating and platforms for potted plants as well as climbing and play structures for children. The gridded pattern of the sandstone pavers established an elegant transition from the indoor space to the exterior. Cost saving measures were taken by creating simple plans with accurate dimensions and takeoffs for all materials. Coordinaton and collaboration between designer and builder streamlined this project and helped save time and ultimately save costs. Client: My husband Location: Louisville,...
